WINTER AIKIDO CAMP

The Winter Aikido Camp is a 5-day intensive held at the Integral Dojo in Tel Aviv. This is your opportunity to escape the cold winter weather for 5 days of Aikido, warm sunshine, relaxing on the beach, and fun with friends.
Join Miles Kessler for a 5-day deep dive into the practice and application of
"Shu-Ha-Ri: The 3 Stages Of Mastery" in Aikido.
Here's what you'll learn!

Buki Waza

The Aikido weapons classes are an integral part of the Winter Camp. Each day there will be Jo and Bokken classes with application to the "Shu-Ha-Ri" system. Morning Buki Waza classes will be held in the dojo as well as at the beach.

Henka Waza

The practice of "Henka Waza" (technical variations) is the corner stone of intermediate practice. It is a critical practice structure that is required development for advanced practice.  This is where the practitioner first understands complexity in Aikido and begins to create technical fluency in the art.

Oyo Waza

"Oya Waza" (applied techniques) is the entry level to advanced training. This is where you learn to apply the techniques and principles Aikido to new and unscripted situations. "Oyo Waza" is the beginning practice of applying your technical fluency into freely, appropriately, and spontaneously.

Kaeshi Waza

The practice of "Kaeshi Waza" (counter techniques) is the peak of advanced training. You will become more grounded in the "kaeshi waza" preliminary practices, and learn the systematic approach to this body of advanced training.

ABOUT TEL AVIV

Tel Aviv Beaches

Tel Aviv is a beautiful and vibrant beach city on the Mediterranean Sea. During the winter camp's off time enjoy relaxing by the sea or taking a dip in the sea (still a bit chilly in March!). Tel Aviv's beaches are a great place to enjoy the beautiful sunset with a walk along the promenade, or in one of the many cafes, bars, or restaurants.

Tel Aviv Cafes & Restaurants

When it comes to food and coffee, Tel-Aviv is Paradise. Whether you are a Vegetarian, Vegan or animal-eater, you will find what ever you want - Tel-Aviv has it all. The city is packed with easy to reach awesome places to eat... from coffee bars, to street vendors, wonderful restaurants, and even top chefs with international recognition.

Jaffa

Jaffa is the ancient port at the south end of the city. With its old narrow streets and port area, Jaffa has become a highly desirable part of Tel Aviv’s urban tapestry. Jaffa's colorful flee market is a well-known for its unique shops and cafes. The ancient feel of the Old City of Jaffa gives you the sense of being in another world... just a few minutes away from central Tel Aviv.

Getting Around Tel Aviv

Tel Aviv has the big city feel, but with the easy accessibility of a small city. It is quite possible to walk to most places, but there is also every form of transportation that is relatively inexpensive. Taxis are everywhere in the city, as well as public buses and trains.

But perhaps the most convenient way to get around is with Tel Aviv's bike or scooter rental. These rentals are everywhere and are easy to access with an app from your phone.

Tel Aviv's Carmel Market

Carmel Market (the Shuk Hacarmel) is the largest market in Tel Aviv. A vibrant place where traders sell everything from clothing to food, fruits and spices, visiting the Carmel Market is a fascinating thing to do in Tel Aviv. The vibrant noise, colors and smells, give you an authentic Middle-Eastern style "shuk" right in the heart of Tel Aviv. A must visit for anyone enjoying a day excursion in Tel Aviv.

Jerusalem Day Trip

Before or after the Aikido camp you could include a day trip to Jerusalem. It is a very convenient 40 min train ride from Tel Aviv, and then a comfortable 20 min tram ride to the old city. The richness of living history in Jerusalem includes religious sites like the Chruch of the Holy Sepulcher, the Via Dolorosa, the Wailing Wall, and the Dome Of The Rock. If you are interested in the rich history, or even a pilgrimage then a visit to Jerusalem is a must!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, and this is the least expensive option. Staying in the dojo means sleeping in the tatami with the group. We will provide a mattress but you will need to bring your own sleeping bag. The dojo has communal showers, toilets, and kitchen.

You will need to do daily dojo cleaning for about 30 min. each day, as well as help out with any communal meals you participate in.

During the Winter Aikido Camp there is a special discounted price for staying in the dojo (*See payment option above).

Before and after the Winter Aikido Camp the cost for staying in the dojo is 150 nis per-day (abut €35 per day).

For those of you who prefer not staying in the Dojo, you can find good accommodation options in Tel- Aviv.

We highly recommend “Abraham Hostel” (Link: https://abrahamhostels.com/tel-aviv). This Hostel is 20 min. Walk from the Dojo, located in the beating heart of Tel Aviv, surrounded by many of the city’s hottest spots.

You can also use Airbnb and other websites to find a room or an apartment for your stay.

March is the beginning of Israel's Spring season. The days are usually sunny, with a high temp. of 21°C / 70°F, and lows of 10°C / 50°F.

It is a beautiful time of the year as everything is nice and green after being replenished from the winter rains.

From the airport  we recommend you will do one of the following:

Taking the train:

The train from the airport to “HaShalom” station. From there it is about a 10 min walk to the Integral Dojo (you can also take a taxi from there).  The train cost 16 NIS , the taxi from Hashalom shouldn’t cost more than 25 NIS.

For train schedule please go here and search the train times from BEN GURION AIRPORT to TEL AVIV HASHALOM station.

The dojo is a 10 min. walk from the train station. See the Google map here.

Taking a taxi from the airport:

To go directly to the Integral Dojo taking a taxi is the easiest option. The taxi from the airport will cost you between 120 nis to 150 nis. The ride takes 20 to 40 min. depending on the traffic.

Caution:

We recommend that you only take the official taxis from the airport. The taxi station is clearly marked and is located just outside the airport exit to the left.

DO NOT take a taxi if the driver approaches you as they are extremely overpriced.

ALWAYS INSIST ON THE METER BEFORE DEPARTURE.

You do not need to bring your bokken and jo. We have plenty of bokken and jo here at the dojo, and traveling with your sticks could lead to complications at the Tel Aviv airport security and may cause travel delays.

Due to limited spaces, we recommend that you register for the Winter Aikido Camp as early as possible. However, we also understand that sometimes cancelation is necessary. Should you need to cancel your registration here is our policy:

  • Up to 45 days before retreat - 70% refund.
  • Between 44 to 30 days before the retreat - 25% refund.
  • 29 days before retreat no refund.
  • Participants canceling up to 30 days before the Winter Camp may also choose to keep their payment as credit for a future event, valid for one full year. If this option is chosen, a 50€ administration fee will be deducted.

  • If the organizer (The Integral Dojo) should cancel this event, all monies paid by participants will be refunded.

  • In the event of cancelations due to COVID-related government restrictions, two choices will be offered to participants:

    1. Credit for future events:

This is our preferred option, as it supports the financial standing of the organizers. Whatever you have already paid will be held in credit towards the next retreat you would like to attend within a 3-year period.

    2. Refund minus administration costs and or offering of donation:

We would refund the retreat amount minus €100 administration costs. However, if you would like to offer more, that amount would also go towards supporting the organization during such difficult times.
